Teen Driver Challenge
The Okeechobee County Sheriff's Office is dedicated to reducing the number of injuries and deaths among our young drivers. Their safety is a top priority. The Primary purpose of this course improves skills, vehicle knowledge, aids in the formation of good driving habits and provides valuable tools for all of their driving years.I would like to invite your teen to participate in the Florida Sheriffs Association's Teen Driver Challenge presented by Okeechobee County Sheriff's Office. The Florida Sheriffs Association's Teen Driver Challenge first began in Leon County as a pilot program. The program was so successful, that in 2007,the FSA board adopted the idea and developed an expert team of law enforcement officials and teen driving experts to introduce the program statewide. Today, there are 37 counties with an active Teen Driver Challenge Program to include: Alachua, Bradford, Brevard, Citrus, Clay, Collier, Desoto, Dixie, Duval, Escambia, Franklin, Gadsden, Glades, Gulf, Hamilton, Hernando, Hillsborough, Highlands, Lake, Lee, Leon, Manatee, Marion, Okeechobee, Osceola, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Santa Rosa, Sarasota, Seminole, St. Lucie, Sumter, Taylor, Volusia, Wakulla, and Walton.

Participants must be a high school student who has a restricted permit or driver's license. The class consists of three training days; the first day is a four-hour block of instruction in a classroom and the next two evenings are four-hours of vehicle operations at the Okeechobee High School Drivers Education pad. Your teen will learn service and maintenance, techniques on vehicle control, crash avoidance, and lots more. Students must use their own vehicles and it is recommended they use the vehicle they will most likely be driving. Upon successful completion of the program, students will receive a certificate of completion. Certificates may be presented to your auto insurance company for a possible reduction in your insurance premium (See Sergeant Stripling for a list of local participating insurance companies). All Instructors are Okeechobee County Sheriff Deputies. Topics include: Knowing your vehicle, using your senses, vehicle dynamics, safe driving habits, alcohol and driving, aggressive driving.
Class Schedule & Registration

The program will be conducted with a minimum of two (2) instructors on the first night and a minimum of 1 instructor for every three students for the driving range on the following days.
All Registration Information MUST be received prior to class date.
